The Department of Sustainability, R&D and Innovation and the Vinho Verde Academy promotes the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge in various areas relevant to the Vinhos Verdes Region, articulating and bringing together the various stakeholders in training activities, so as to guarantee adequate standards of qualification for the various regional players.
SUSTAINABILITY
The Commission boosts sustainable practices by addressing key material issues and implementing responsible production strategies, with performance assessed through a set of indicators.
RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION
The Commission seeks out opportunities along the value chain and secures funding for R&D projects. It also sets up strategic partnerships with academic and business entities to implement R&D activities and subsequently report the results of these to the sector.
TRAINING
The Commission develops training and knowledge-sharing activities, including practical courses and demonstrations, designed to empower both professionals and the general public using a multidisciplinary approach.

THE VINHO VERDE ACADEMY
The Academy promotes training and the dissemination of knowledge in various fields relevant to the Vinhos Verdes Region.
EVAG - THE RESEARCH CENTER FOR THE VINHOS VERDES DEMARCATED REGION
EVAG is a facility comprising 66 hectares that encompass vineyards, forests, lamprey fishing weirs, agritourism activities, an ampelographic collection, propagation of vegetative material, and a winery.
The Vinhos Verdes Sustainability Program (PSVV)
● The Academy promotes the development of the wine business in the Vinhos Verdes Region in a sustainable environment adapted to climate change;
● It encourages adherence to the Vinhos Verdes Sustainability Program through visits to the different economic agents and/or winegrowers in the Region;
● It identifies producer-mentors who, through experience and sharing of good practices, encourage adherence to the PSVV;
● It provides training and qualification in circular business models, based on the sustainable development objectives; and
● It sets up alliances among different key players to support the transition to more sustainable and efficient production models in the wine sector.
Research, development and innovation
● EVAG identifies and prioritizes the relevant areas in need of research, development and innovation in the Vinhos Verdes Region;
● It draws up short, medium and long-term action plans that identify and promote strategic R&D projects, according to their degree of relevance to the Region;
● EVAG both generates and deepens knowledge that identifies common strategies across the sector to increase its global competitiveness;
● It improves the sector's productive capacity through training and knowledge-dissemination via demonstration initiatives;
● It coordinates and monitors the progress of the R&D projects; and
● It serves as an intermediary between the scientific community and the economic agents of the region regarding training and knowledge exchange and sharing
