The market development and the increasing valuation of the "Vinho Verde" denomination advised ,for a long time, the improvement of protection measures regarding its origin and quality.

However, only in 1959 the Decree Nr. 42590 of October, 16, established the guarantee seal and the Decree Nr. 43 067 of October, 12, 1960 published its rules.

Another important landmark was the recognition of the statutes for the “Aguardente de Vinho da Região dos Vinhos Verdes” (wine spirits) and “Aguardente Bagaceira da Região dos Vinhos Verdes” (grape marc spirits) produced in this demarcated region, that happened in 1984 with the Decree 39/84 of February, 2.

3. Seal for “Aguardente Bagaceira da Região dos Vinhos Verdes” (grape marc spirits), smaller than 0,15 l.
4. Seal for aged “Aguardente de Vinho e Aguardente Bagaceira da Região dos Vinhos Verdes” (wine spirits and grape marc spirits), bigger than 0,15 l.
